Yes, "Artist" is one career in the Visual Arts field but there are so many additional opportunities to use creative skills (and make $).
(click image for website) Today our 5th graders were treated to a special guest speaker (and NFE parent), Dr. Lisa Freiman. Dr. Freiman is the Director of the Institute for Contemporary Art which is slated to open in 2016 on the V.C.U. campus.
It was so exciting for students and staff to hear about the ICA building concept and thoughtfully planned spaces as well as the opportunity to discuss a sampling of contemporary art. The students were AMAZING! They had such insightful questions and observations. In fact, Dr. Freiman shared that they were her most engaging audience that she has had over the last 2 years. I am very proud of them. There are such amazing things coming to the ever-growing Richmond art scene and Dr. Freiman is front and center. We were very honored and appreciate her sharing her time and expertise with us today. Thank you Dr. Freiman! We enjoyed a wonderful artist reception at Our Lady of Hope this past Monday. Many artists and their families came out to see their artwork on view at the center. Nuckols Farm families were also able to meet and mingle with center residents who expressed their delight for the exhibit. Thank you to Our Lady of Hope Health Center, Rebecca Merritt (Director of Activities), and the entire staff who helped make Monday night so special for everyone! 4th grade Recorder Concert, "Just a Dream."
Attendees to the evening performance will receive a handmade "dream stone." Student-created illustrations will be projected on the "beds" hung in the MPR. A sneak peek... Our special exhibit at Our Lady of Hope Health Center (our next door neighbors) is on view! This exhibit (with @30 student works) will brighten many resident’s days and will continue our service to the Nuckols Farm community. The exhibit will be displayed until Wednesday, March 25th. We will be holding an artist reception on Monday, March 23rd at 4:00 p.m. (This early time is necessary for the center’s daily schedule.) Here is a sneak peek... Thanks so much to the 2nd graders and their families who were able to come out tonight to Godwin High School for our "Monster Mash-up" art reception. It was such fun to see their artwork and what "happened" to the creatures. (See this post for more info.) Thank you to the Godwin art teachers, Mrs. Hurlburt, Ms. Jones and Ms. Morris, and to the Godwin art students. Thank you also to Mrs. Merriam and Mr. Kalafatis (HCPS Art Specialist) for joining us. More photos to come but HOW FUN IS THIS?! (below)
The Central Region Virginia Art Education Association opened its annual Youth Art Month exhibit at Suntrust Bank downtown. The exhibit will be on display during the month of March. Art work from all Richmond Metro area schools and surrounding counties is exhibited.
Amelia B.'s beautiful pastel tree landscape represents Nuckols Farm very well! A reception was held Wednesday for all artists and their families. Congratulations Amelia! |
